Welcome to the AEG Inland Empire Chapter
of the Southern California Region – Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists

November 2026 Meeting of the Chapter

We hope you will join us for our tenth 2026 AEG Inland Empire meeting. The meeting will be held Wednesday, Novemver 11, at the Luna Modern Mexican Kitchen, in Corona. This is a “south” venue of our roving AEG-IE meeting locations and at a new location. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Presentation Summary:

Late Mississippian to Early Pennsylvanian tectonic and climatic shifts transformed

the U.S. midcontinent from a stable carbonate shelf into a clastic dominated

system. Using sandstone compositions and detrital zircon U Pb ages paired with

more than 100 (U Th)/He dates, this study evaluates how the Alleghanian–

Ouachita–Marathon and Ancestral Rocky Mountains (ARM) orogens shaped

sediment provenance along proposed transcontinental dispersal routes.

Chesterian–Morrowan valley fill sandstones in the Hugoton Embayment in Kansas

and Chesterian–Desmoinesian Arkoma shelf sandstones in Missouri record the

onset of a major Late Mississippian sediment routing system tied to the Alleghanian

orogeny, followed by Early Pennsylvanian provenance shifts signaling disruption by

ARM related intraplate deformation. Results also underscore key considerations for

applying U Pb–He double dating in orogenic settings, particularly the influence of

regional hydrothermal systems on zircon He ages.

Speaker Biography:

Tandis Bidgoli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at

California State University, San Bernardino. Before joining CSUSB in 2022, she

worked as a scientist with the Kansas Geological Survey and later served as faculty

in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Missouri. Her research

focuses on reconstructing temporal and spatial patterns of strain to better

understand the mechanisms and drivers of deformation and landscape evolution.

She is committed to strengthening the geoscience profession and currently serves

on the Geological Society of America Council.
