Presentation Summary:

Mr. Dan Walsh, Chief Engineering Geologist for San Bernardino County, will provide an overview of the SBC Mining & Geology Division, including an introduction to staff, purview of work, workload statistics, and a discussion on the Division’s philosophy on report reviews, including requirements and tips for streamlined report reviews. Additionally, a Q&A session will follow the presentation.

 
Speaker Biography:

Mr. Dan Walsh, PG, CEG, is a seasoned geologist with over 26 years of expertise in geotechnical, environmental, and regulatory fields across Southern California. Mr. Walsh has led diverse field investigations, subsurface drilling operations, hillside grading, fault and landslide studies, OWTS assessments, and pavement rehabilitation projects. His work spans land use planning, seismic and liquefaction analyses, and geologic hazard evaluations for residential, commercial, military, and infrastructure developments. Mr. Walsh has served as County Geologist for Riverside County (8 years) and now San Bernardino County (2 years), overseeing geologic hazard and paleontological assessments, regulatory compliance for surface mining operations under SMARA, PRC, and CCR, and consulting for emergency management and land use planning. This role has deepened his expertise in CEQA, public safety, and environmental legislation.
